High-mileage S10 Pinging

From: Adrian D.
Subject: S10 Pinging

Bobby,

Great show! I own a 1985 S10 2-5L FE auto with 200,800 miles on it. Does not smoke. For the longest time, it pings in top gear (preignition). I use 93 octane (anything lower and all heck breaks loose with the noise) to help but still get a soft ping sound. Could be that over the miles carbon had built up on top of the piston head increasing the compression. What to do?

Thanks.

Adrian,

The BG chemistry can dissolve the "bonding agent" that holds carbon to pistons, rings, valves, etc, but you'll want to locate a shop that can talk "chemistry" to make sure they understand the special actions necessary to clean out an engine with so many miles. We use the BG Induction Service, but for your engines, I would resort to the "Squid." I bought one of these machines as soon as they were released, after I met its inventor during class at BG University, and because I understand what it can do.

Go to www.bgfindashop.com and then call a few (or more) to discuss how they say their BG machinery and service can solve your problem.

Sincerely,
Bobby Likis
