Are Fluid Changes Necessary?

Subject: Fluid Changes?
Bobby,
Are fluid changes really necessary?
For example, I own a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup with a 5.2 liter V8 with auto etc., which has just 16,500 miles on it. It was purchased new with the intention of primarily using it for road trips. Hence, it's low mileage. I use it for local trips when i need its bed-carrying capability. I have had it serviced every 6 months at the same dealership.
What I want to know: Is it really necessary to change the transmission fluid and radiator coolant when the mileage is as low as it is? Or, are such recommendations merely just aftermarket ploys to increase dealer revenues? I would appreciate your views on this question.
Thanks.

Al,
Fluid changes (using the BG Chemistry and Conditioners) are the most inexpensive and surefire method I know of that adds life to any mechanical device using oils or other wetted products.
Here's the bottom line: a visual inspection of all fluids in your vehicle (any vehicle) along with strip testing (coolant & brake fluid pH levels) will allow your vehicle to “tell you” and your technician what condition its fluids are in. Remember that the very same fluids that allow these systems to operate can also cause failure when the fluids become contaminated and/or lose specific additives.
Sincerely,
Bobby Likis
