Fuel Degradation Conditions

From: Harry
Subject: Fuel Stabilizer

Bobby,

Bobby, as always thanks for your advice, which I’ve been asking for & receiving for years! I’m considering a fuel stabilizer because I’ve been told that gasoline deteriorates faster in just a matter of a few weeks. My wife's Expedition isn’t driven very much and gasoline may stay in the tank for two or three months. It is not a problem with my Buick because I am driving it every day and out of town trips. Since gasoline has gotten so expensive, I have been trying to use my Buick more since it gets about 28 mpg to 30 on the road and her Expedition only gets about 19mpg (8-10 in town). What is your opinion on the time frame of gasoline going bad in the tank?

Thanks,
Harry

Harry,

Fuel degradation depends on storage temperature and moisture environment. I rarely drive the Viper (one tank of fuel every 3 months) and have never had any indication of old gasoline problems. BG CF5® added every 5K miles is all I do, and have done for the past 3 years.

Best Regards,
Bobby Likis
