Transmission Filter Replaced?

From: Jim
Subject: BG Fluid Changes

Bobby,

I recently invested $1700 in my 2000 Durango for full BG fluid changes. My question is: does the BG transmission servicing include changing the transmission filter when flushing the transmission fluids @ 100,000 miles?

Thanks for your radio show and this forum.

Great Question, Jim,

The BG Transmission Service - if performed according to BG's 30K miles schedule - allows the reuse of a transmission filter for 150K miles. This service protects the transmission (or applicable mechanical component) from failure.

I suggest you take a quick tour of this site for info on BG's Protection Plan. Then be sure to discuss the Plan & its benefits with your local service shop. The bottom line, Jim, is that when mechanical components are properly serviced and life-bloods/fluids replaced & conditioners added, the component life is all but assured for 150K miles.

At Car Clinic Service, we rarely replace a filter, except for those new (1st time in) customers who wait until 125K miles and come into the shop with some transmission symptom hoping a flush will save their transmission. Or perhaps they bought a used vehicle with 100K miles and have no service records - scary, huh?

However, we've actually saved quite a few units by servicing the unit, then dropping the pan, replacing the filter and then adding what amount of fluid was lost. Since the filter trapped some debris, the unit must be flushed first to remove debris with the filter change immediately afterwards.

Best regards,
Bobby Likis
